NHL: Vancouver 2, Detroit 1

DETROIT, March 23 (UPI) -- Daniel Sedin scored twice and Roberto Luongo turned aside 39 shots Wednesday in the Vancouver Canucks' 2-1 win over Detroit.

Sedin racked up his 39th and 40th goals of the season, boosting his league-leading points total to 95. His twin brother, Henrik Sedin, added two assists to reach 88 points, and the Canucks logged their sixth straight road win in a battle of the Western Conference's two top seeds.

Luongo was tested in the third period but allowed only one goal on 17 shots, raising his record to 34-14-7.

The Canucks reached 105 points for only the second time in franchise history.

The win allowed Vancouver to post a 10-point lead over the Red Wings for No. 1 seed in the conference with eight games to play.

Jimmy Howard turned aside 31 shots and Jiri Hudler scored for the Red Wings, losers of three straight.
