MLB:Boston 5, Arizona 4

BOSTON, June 24 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell hit a two-run double, and Jason Varitek drove in the go-ahead run the eighth Tuesday, propelling the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over Arizona.

Dustin Pedroia had two RBI for Boston.

Justin Masterson gave up four runs on seven hits in a six-inning start and Chris Smith (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Arizona starter Doug Davis gave up three runs on seven hits in seven-plus innings, and struck out six. Chad Qualls (1-6) came in to relieve Davis, but allowed for two runs on four hits in two-thirds of the eighth inning.

Chad Tracy had a three run homer and drove in all four of Arizona's runs.
