MLB: Arizona 9, San Diego 0

PHOENIX, April 19 (UPI) -- Chris Snyder climaxed a six-run first inning with a three-run double off Greg Maddux Friday and the Arizona Diamondbacks sailed to a 9-0 win over San Diego.

Maddux (2-1) was trying to become the ninth player in baseball history win the 350 games, but he allowed six runs on six hits in the opening inning. Maddux stayed in the game, however, and eventually gave up 13 hits and nine runs over seven innings.

The first-inning onslaught made things easy for Dan Haren (3-0), who allowed three hits in seven frames.

Chris Young led off the first with a single and moved to second on a base hit by Eric Byrnes. Both runners scored on a triple by Conor Jackson.

Mark Reynolds then reached on an infield single with Jackson holding at third, but Jackson scored on a single by Justin Upton.

An intentional walk to Stephen Drew loaded the bases, bringing up Snyder. He smashed a 1-0 pitch to center, driving in all three runners.
