MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Brian Bannister held the Twins to an earned run and six hits Sunday afternoon, as the Kansas City Royals beat Minnesota, 8-1.

Gordon later hit his second solo homer and John Buck hit a two-run shot. Buck and Shane Costa both had three hits, while three players had two hits each, as the Royals split the four-game series.

Bannister (12-7) did not walk a batter and fanned one.

Minnesota’s only run scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Redmond in the eighth. Garrett Jones had three of the six hits for the Twins, who have split their last 10 games.

The losing pitcher was starter Boof Bonser (6-12).
