MLB: Chi. White Sox 13, NY Yankees 9

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Jermaine Dye had two doubles, two home runs and four RBI Thursday to power the Chicago White Sox past the New York Yankees, 13-9.

The White Sox and Yankees both scored eight runs in the second inning, but the offensive explosion did not include a home run from Alex Rodriguez -- who needs one more to reach 500 for his career.

Rodriguez managed to break his 0-for-21 skid with two hits and an RBI.

Paul Konerko homered and drove in two runs for the White Sox, who drove Roger Clemens from the mound in the second inning. It was Clemens' shortest outing in seven years as he gave up nine hits and eight runs, only three of which were earned.

Neither starter figured in the decision. The win went to Boone Logan (2-0), who worked two scoreless innings of relief.

Jeff Karstens (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 3 1/3.

Chicago's second inning featured two hits by both Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski. Three of New York's eight runs in the bottom half of the inning came on a homer by Wilson Betemit.
