Victor Diaz and Marlon Byrd combined for six of Texas' 16 hits along with three RBI. The game marked the return of Rangers' starter Kevin Millwood from the disabled list, and he gave up 10 hits and seven runs, four of them earned, through five innings.

Akinori Otsuka (2-1) got the win, pitching a perfect eighth, and Eric Gagne picked up his fourth save.

The loss went to Sean Green (0-1), who faced only two batters in the eighth.

Texas first baseman Mark Teixeira left the game in the third inning with a mild concussion. As Teixeira was scoring on a single by Byrd, he was hit below his left eye by a throw from centerfielder Ichiro Suzuki.
