NHL: N.Y. Rangers 4, Atlanta 3

ATLANTA, April 12 (UPI) -- Michael Nylander had a goal and two assists Thursday, as the New York Rangers beat Atlanta, 4-3, in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist and Marcel Hossa and Michal Rozsival scored goals for the Rangers, who won a playoff game for the first time in almost 10 years. The Rangers were eliminated in a four-game sweep by the New Jersey Devils in last year's Stanley Cup playoffs.

Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves for the Rangers, whose last playoff win was May 15, 1997, in Philadelphia.

Pascal Dupuis had a goal and an assist and Eric Belanger and Shane Hnidy scored for the Thrashers, who are in the playoffs for the first time in team history. Kari Lehtonen stopped 34 shots.

Game 2 is set for Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
