MLB: Miami 94, Cleveland 90 (OT)

CLEVELAND, April 5 (UPI) -- Jason Kapono sank a go-ahead three-pointer in overtime Thursday night as the Miami Heat topped the Cleveland Cavaliers, 94-90.

The reigning NBA champion Heat secured an Eastern Conference playoff berth with the victory.

The contest went to overtime after Cleveland out-scored Miami, 27-14, in the fourth period to forge an 83-83 tie at the end of regulation.

Shaquille O'Neal and Antoine Walker scored 20 points apiece to lead Miami. Udonis Haslem had 15 points and six rebounds, Kapono had 11 points and five assists, and O'Neal added eight rebounds and two assists for the Heat, who are fourth in the East and moved 1 1/2 games ahead of idle Washington in the Southeast Division.

LeBron James led Cleveland with 35 points and nine rebounds. Larry Hughes, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Drew Gooden all scored 14 points for the Cavaliers, who fell 3 1/2 games behind Detroit in the Central Division and surrendered the No. 2 seed to idle Chicago.
