NHL: Vancouver 2, Dallas 1 (SO)

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo stopped five out of six shootout attempts Wednesday night and finally got the best of Marty Turco as Vancouver outlasted Dallas, 2-1.

There were 66 shots taken during regulation and the five-minute overtime. Luongo and Turco combined to stop 64 of them with Turco making 39 saves in Dallas' goal.

Brendan Morrison scored on Vancouver's second shootout attempt and Jussi Jokinen tied it moments later.

But Luongo then stopped efforts by Mike Ribeiro, Loui Eriksson, Antti Miettinen and Stu Barnes -- the last of those saves coming after Ryan Kesler scored against Turco.

Mattias Ohlund scored with 1:02 left in the opening period for Vancouver and Eriksson tied it midway through the second.
