NHL: Vancouver 3, Detroit 1

DETROIT, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- In his first game with Vancouver Thursday night, goalie Roberto Luongo made 27 saves as the Canucks beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-1.

Luongo, who spent the last five seasons with the Florida Panthers, was making his debut with Vancouver after signing as a free agent in the off-season.

Markus Naslund and Sami Salo scored power play goals and Trevor Linden scored once. Salo, Josh Green, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Tommi Santala and Kevin Bieksa all had one assist for the Canucks (1


0), who were playing their first game under new coach Alain Vigneault.

Detroit (0-1-0), which has won five straight Central Division titles, got its lone goal from Henrik Zetterberg late in the third period on an assist by Mikael Samuelsson.

Free-agent signee Dominik Hasek allowed three goals on 17 shots before being replaced by Chris Osgood.
