Silver Slugger awards announced

LOUISVILE, Ky., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Veteran outfielder Barry Bonds leads the list of players name winners of the Silver Slugger Award.

One of the winners was leftfielder Manny Ramirez of Boston, who reportedly has been placed on irrevocable waivers by the Red Sox with five years and $110 million left on his contract.

Bonds, 39, hit .341 this past season with 45 homers and 90 RBI, and led the majors with a .529 on-base percentage and .749 slugging percentage.

Joining Bonds in the National League were Javy Lopez, Todd Helton, Jose Vidro, Mike Lowell, Edgar Renteria, Albert Pujols, Gary Sheffield, and Mike Hampton.

Along with Ramirez in the American League were Jorge Posada, Bret Boone, Carlos Delgado, Bill Mueller, Alex Rodriguez, who led the American League in home runs with 47, Garret Anderson, Vernon Wells, and Edgar Martinez.

They are given annually to the top offensive players at each position in both leagues by the Hillerich & Bradsby Co., maker of the Louisville Slugger bat.
