Florida 2, Atlanta 1

MIAMI, July 22 (UPI) -- Charles Johnson hit a shot off the right field wall to score Derrek Lee and snap a sixth-inning tie and had an extremely active night behind the plate catching A.J. Burnett as the Florida Marlins

cooled off the red-hot Atlanta Braves Monday night, 2-1.

Burnett (9-7) allowed one run and five hits over six innings for the win, his first since June 20. The hard-throwing righthander struck out six but kept Johnson lunging.

Burnett walked three and threw 109 pitches. Several times, he fired curveballs more than a foot off the plate and 97 mile-per-hour fastballs inches above it.

Braden Looper, the Marlins' fourth pitcher, tossed a hitless ninth to preserve Florida's fourth straight victory and record just his second save in five chances.

Greg Maddux (9-3) pitched well but suffered his first loss in 15 starts after giving up both runs and seven hits over six innings with a walk and six strikeouts.

The Braves had a six-game winning streak halted.
