April 14 (UPI) -- Five-time Grammy winner Shania Twain has joined The Voice Season 12 as a key adviser.

The 51-year-old country star confirmed in a tweet Thursday that she will mentor the Top 12 contestants on the NBC reality competition's April 24 episode.

"Excited to announce that I'll appear on @nbcthevoice this month, as a mentor to the finalists. Tune in on Monday 24th April at 8pm ET/PT," she wrote.

Twain, who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, previously served as a guest judge on the Fox series American Idol. She plans to release a new album -- her first in 15 years -- this year after being diagnosed with dysphonia, a vocal-cord disorder.

"I'm a different singer now," the star told Rolling Stone in February. "There was a lot of coming to terms with that. It's been one of the obstacles in my life I've just had to learn to live with."

"It needed to be really pure and my own story and my own emotional journey," she explained of writing the music for the album herself. "It's a very personal thing."

Twain last released the album Up! in 2002, which includes the singles "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" and "Forever and for Always." She is known for the songs "You're Still the One" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman," which appear on her 1997 album Come On Over.
