NEW YORK, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Jessica Simpson considers her marriage to 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey a money mistake.

The 35-year-old designer said as much when asked about her biggest financial mistakes Thursday on CNBC series Closing Bell. Simpson and Lachey were wed three years before separating in November 2005.

"The biggest money mistakes? I don't know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage," the star admitted. Host Kelly Evans replied, "That's actually a common answer, believe it or not."

Simpson appeared on the program to discuss the continued success of her Jessica Simpson brand. Her retail lines are worth a reported $1 billion, and she credited her achievements to knowing "what women want" and "want to look like."

Simpson and Lachey finalized their divorce in June 2006, and the designer went on to marry Eric Johnson in July 2014. She will launch her activewear line, The Warm Up, in October, and is also planning to return to the music industry with a new record.
