NEW YORK, June 1 (UPI) -- Rielle Hunter, former mistress of onetime Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, has written a memoir about their affair and the child it produced.

"What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me," will be published this month by BenBella Books, publisher Glenn Yeffeth told People magazine.

"We are delighted to publish Rielle Hunter's memoir. A lot has been said. But no one has heard the truth of what really happened until now," Yeffeth said.

Hunter's representative, RoseMarie Terenzio, told People the book will hit shelves June 26.

"I know he loves me," Hunter told GQ in 2010. "I have never had any doubt at all about that. We love each other very much. And that hasn't changed, and I believe that will be till death do us part. The love doesn't go away. It's unconditional."

Edwards was acquitted Thursday of taking illegal campaign contributions in 2008 from Rachel "Bunny" Mellon and spending the money to hide his affair with Hunter, a former campaign worker. A U.S. District Court judge declared a mistrial after the jury deliberated for nine days but was unable to come to a conclusion on five other charges Edwards faced.

A retrial of Edwards is unlikely, legal analysts say.
