"To my deepest regret, I need to leave the production at this time," Guy said in a statement released by Byk.

The 39-year-old actress has appeared in several films and television series but she is best known for her role as Whitley Gilbert Wayne on the series "A Different World," a "Cosby Show" spinoff that began in 1987.

Guy is being replaced by understudy Robin Miles who will now open the show on Nov. 6 at the newly restored Biltmore Theater.

The drama's author, Richard Greenberg, won the Tony Award for best play in June for "Take Me Out."
