Detroit 4, Kansas City 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Reliever Fernando Rodney retired all six batters he faced Wednesday night as Detroit held on to edge Kansas City, 4-3.

The Tigers have put together their first road winning streak since early June.

Shane Loux (1-1) allowed one run and three hits in five innings to pick up his first major league win. He had been 0-4 with an 8.47 ERA in 13 career games, including six starts.

The Tigers, who had not won back-to-back road games since June 3-4, captured the final two contests of the three-game series.

Detroit opens a season-ending, four-game series against Minnesota on Thursday.

The Tigers, who improved to 40-118, must win three of their final four games to avoid matching the 1962 New York Mets' modern-day record for losses in a season.
