Roger Ebert to have radiation

CHICAGO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Movie critic Roger Ebert, who has had two cancer surgeries in the last two years, will undergo radiation treatments for a tumor on a salivary gland.

The 61-year-old movie critic for the Chicago Sun-Times wrapped up production this week on the current season of the syndicated movie-review show he hosts with fellow Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

He plans to begin the treatments in late August after he returns from a barge trip in France with his family.

Although he said he does not expect the treatments to affect his work schedule, Ebert expressed disappointment that he will have to curtail his attendance at some film festivals.

"I will, however, continue to see movies, write reviews and do the 'Ebert & Roeper' television show," he wrote to friends.

"The treatments are a follow-up to earlier surgery; this is not considered to be a life-threatening form of cancer."
