MOSCOW, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Polish gas giant PGNiG and Russian gas monopoly said they settled deals for increased deliveries of gas to Poland through 2037
Alexander Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Gazprom, met with PGNiG President Michal Szubski to discuss the terms of their gas relations.
The agreement ends a disputed related to tariff policies for Russian gas transits through Poland that simmered from 2006 to 2009.
"The agreement confirms the reliability and constructiveness of the partnership ties between our countries," said Medvedev. "It paves the way towards closer cooperation."
The agreement extends the contract for gas supplies from Russia to Poland until 2037. Natural gas transports would increase for Polish markets beginning in 2010, Gazprom added.
The deal also calls for expanding gas transits through the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe until 2045.
"The accords reached put an end to the 10-year period of disagreements and open up prospects for favorable cooperation," said Szubski.
Poland is able to meet 30 percent of its annual gas consumption through domestic reserves. Gazprom in 2008 agreed to deliver nearly 290 billion cubic feet of gas per year.
