Discovery Air Defense to train German military

TORONTO, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Germany's military is to receive fast jet airborne training services from Canada's Discovery Air Defense Services Inc.

The contact is for five years beginning next January and will feature the use of seven Douglas A-4 aircraft, the company said.

No details, however, were given on the value of the agreement.

Under the award, Discovery Air Defense Services will perform about 1,200 flight hours per year.

"We are very proud of this significant achievement, and are looking forward to providing high-quality airborne training services to Germany's military," said Paul Bouchard, president of Defense Services. "Over the last eight years, we have provided over 41,000 hours of high-quality airborne training services to the Canadian armed forces and earned a reputation as a premier provider of combat support solutions.

"The opportunity to provide our services to the German armed forces is a testament to the experience and professionalism of the Discovery Air Defense Services Team."

Discovery Air Defense Services is a subsidiary of Discovery Air, a specialty aviation company operating over 160 aircraft with approximately 850 team members. Discovery Air provides airborne training to the Canadian military, helicopter operations, air ambulance services, airborne fire services and fixed-wing air charter services.
