High-end Cervelo bicycles with Aduro aero handlebars recalled

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- About 1,500 Chinese-made Cervelo bicycles are being recalled in the United States because the handlebars could come off, a federal watchdog agency said Tuesday.

3T Design of Hong Kong is recalling Cervelo P5 bicycles with Aduro aero handlebars imported from China and sold across the United States from May 2012 through August 2013 for between $7,000 and $10,000, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The bicycles are black with red and white stripes. "P5" is printed on the seat tube and "Cervelo" appears on the top tube. A large "e" can be found in white lettering on the down tube.

The words "Ultimate Performance" appear on the forward extensions.

The handlebars were made from January to July 2012. The date codes on the handlebars under recall are comprised of the last four digits of the serial number. The recall includes date codes 1201 through 1207.

Consumers were advised to stop using the bicycles and contact 3T Design to have the handlebars replaced free of charge with a modified set of Aduro aero handlebars with the high or low mount.

Consumers who purchased the ultra-low mount will also receive compensation for that purchase and a free modified base bar or replacement with 3T Mistral aero handlebars with low-position mount.
