WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Northbrook, Ill., distributor The Land of Nod is recalling about 300 drop-side cribs that can entrap or injure a young child, a consumer watchdog agency said.

The cribs were manufactured by Status Furniture of Quebec, a Canadian firm that is now out of business, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

The cribs include hardware that can break, allowing the drop-side to detach, creating a gap between the rail and the mattress that can trap a child, possibly leading to suffocation, the commission said.

The recall involves "Rosebud" cribs that were sold at The Land of Nod stores from January 2003 through September 2004 for about $600.

Consumers were advised to stop using the cribs and contact The Land of Nod for instructions on how to receive store credit.

Consumers can call 800-933-9904 for information.
