Propane recalled for inspection

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Propane distributor Aux Sable Liquid Products of Morris, Ill., is recalling 700 rail cars of propane due to questionable odorant levels, a federal agency said.

The odorant is added to allow people to detect propane leaks. Insufficient levels of the smelly odorant makes the propane a possible risk as a volatile material.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recalled propane involved propane retailers in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia. The propane involved in the recall was delivered to consumers between Feb. 25, 2010 and Sept. 30, 2010.

Consumers who accepted propane deliveries between those dates were advised to contact Aux Sable to arrange for a free inspection. The firm will provide propane with sufficient levels of odorant or replace propane tanks free of charge, the commission said.

Consumers can call 866-473-7612 for information.
