McDonald's adult Happy Meals debut in U.S.

OAKBROOK, Ill., May 11 (UPI) -- McDonalds debuted its adult version of Happy Meals in the United States Tuesday, testing response only until June 7, CNN/Money reported.

The hamburger chain has been a target of obesity lawsuits and has been criticized for promoting unhealthy eating habits high in fat, salt and sugar among both children and adults.

In response, the Oakbrook, Ill.-based chain eliminated its Super Size menu options and offered premium salads.

The newest Go Active! Happy Meal includes a choice of one of four salads, water, a booklet of exercise tips and what the company calls a "stepometer," which is worn on the waist and measures the number of steps one takes.

A McDonalds spokesman said if response is positive, the chain will make it a permanent menu item.
