Adult 'Happy Meals' healthier reading

OAKBROOK, Ill., May 4 (UPI) -- The new "Go Active Happy Meal" for adults on sale at U.S. McDonald's restaurants this month includes a physical fitness booklet, bottled water and a salad.

The small book, "Step with it," has advice on a walking program endorsed by best-selling fitness guru Bob Green, Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer.

The $$@$!4.99 adult "Happy Meal" comes with a Stepometer, a pedometer that keeps track of a person's daily steps. The Stepometer will available for sale separately for $$@$!2.99.

McDonald's is trying to counter bad publicity about the nutritional value of its standard hamburgers, cheeseburgers, Big Macs and French fries.

The new Premium Fiesta Salad has mixed greens topped with warm seasoned beef, cheddar jack cheese and crispy tortilla strips, with sour cream or Newman's Own salsa on the side.

Restaurants will offer younger customers Happy Meal Choices that include fresh apple slices with low fat caramel dipping sauce, low fat Milk Jugs, and apple juice as a substitute for soda.
