The 20-year-old Komisarek was the seventh overall choice in the 2001 draft. He completed his sophomore season at the University of Michigan in 2001-02, collecting 30 points in 39 games and helping the Wolverines reach the NCAA "Frozen Four."

"Mike is a solid defenseman who has improved several aspects of his game over the past season," Canadiens General Manager Andre Savard said. "He reads the play well, he has a good shot and is very efficient in handling passes. Also, we really like his physical game and look forward to seeing him in training camp."

A native of West Islip, New York, Komisarek was a member of Team USA at the World Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002.NEWLN:|end| Content: 15031000 15031001
