Major League Baseball -- Suspended Minnesota Twins outfielder
Torii Hunter three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for
intentionally throwing a ball and hitting Cleveland Indians
pitcher Danys Baez in a July 17 game; suspended New York Yankees
pitcher Orlando Hernandez five games and fined him an
undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at and hitting
Carlos Delgado of the Toronto Blue Jays after both benches were
warned in a July 15 game.
Arizona Diamondbacks -- Placed pitcher Rick Helling on the 15-day
disabled list, retroactive to July 16, with a sprained right ankle;
placed first baseman Greg Colbrunn on the 15-day disabled list,
retroactive to July 18, with a strained right calf; activated
infielder Jay Bell from the 60-day disabled list; recalled
pitcher John Patterson from Tucson on the Pacific Coast League
(AAA).
Cincinnati Reds -- Recalled outfielder Brady Clark from
Louisville of the International League (AAA).
Colorado Rockies -- Signed catcher Adam Melhuse to a minor
league contract and assigned him to Colorado Springs of the
Pacific Coast League (AAA).
New York Mets -- Placed infielder-outfielder Joe McEwing on the
15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 14, with a strained
left rib cage; recalled outfielder Marco Scutaro from Norfolk
of the International League (AAA).
St. Louis Cardinals -- Acquired pitcher Chuck Finley from the
Cleveland Indians for first baseman-outfielder Luis Garcia and
a minor league player to be named.
Texas Rangers -- Recalled pitcher Aaron Myette from Oklahoma of
the Pacific Coast League (AAA); purchased the contract of
pitcher Reynaldo Garcia from Oklahoma; optioned pitcher Colby
Lewis to Oklahoma; assigned pitcher Anthony Telford to Oklahoma.

Boston Celtics -- Signed free agent center Bruno Sundov, who had
been with the Indiana Pacers.
Phoenix Suns -- Signed forward-center Scott Williams, who had been

cornerback Dale Carter indefinitely for violating the league's
substance policy.
Chicago Bears -- Agreed to terms on a three-year contract with
safety Bobby Gray.

Carolina Panthers for defensive end Al Wallace and a fourth
round pick in 2003; waived defensive end Daryl Gardener.
St. Louis Rams -- Signed coach Mike Martz to a five-year
contract; signed quarterback Eric Crouch to a three-year
contract.
