He also appeared in seven playoff games, collecting seven penalty minutes, as the Kings were eliminated in the Western Conference quarterfinals by the Colorado Avalanche.

The rugged 6-2, 210-pound Buchberger was one of three Kings to appear in all 82 games in the 2000-01 season, tallying six goals, 14 assists and 75 penalty minutes.

The 35-year-old Buchberger played 16 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles and Atlanta Thrashers. In 1,032 games, he has 101 goals, 192 assists and 2,079 penalty minutes. Buchberger has 10 goals and 15 assists in 97 playoff games and was a member of three Stanley Cup championship teams, while with Edmonton.

Phoenix has lost in the first round of the playoffs six of the last seven seasons. The Coyotes have not won a series since 1987 when they were the Winnipeg Jets and defeated the Calgary Flames in the Smythe Division semifinals. They lost to the Oilers in the next round.
