Cincinnati Reds -- Purchased the contract of catcher Tim Spehr

from Louisville of the International League (AAA).

Kansas City Royals -- Purchased the contract of pitcher Mike

MacDougal from Omaha of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); placed

pitcher Paul Byrd on the 60-day disabled list with soreness in

his right shoulder.

HOCKEY

Florida Panthers -- Assigned defenseman Brad Norton and center

Matt Herr to Hershey of the American Hockey League; assigned

right wing David Morriset to Bridgeport of the AHL; assigned

goaltender Wade Flaherty to Utah of the AHL; announced that

defenseman Ivan Majesky will return to Ilves Tampere of the

Finnish League.

Phoenix Coyotes -- Signed center Martin Podlesak to a three-year

contract.
