Flyers get McAllister from Leafs

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 26 -- The Philadelphia Flyers added another big defenseman late Tuesday as they acquired Chris McAllister from Toronto while sending forward Reagan Kelly to the Maple Leafs.

The 6-7, 238-pound McAllister registered three assists and 68 penalty minutes in 36 games with Toronto last season.

He has two goals, 10 points with 276 penalty minutes in 120 games over four seasons with the Maple Leafs and Vancouver.

"We're getting a 6-7 defenseman, who two years ago looked like he was really on the upswing," said Flyers General Manager Bob Clarke. "I thought he struggled some last year, but we still see a fairly young, tough, big defenseman who needs some work and some growing as a player. We thought we had to get some more size in there."

The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan originally was a 1995 second-round pick of the Canucks. Toronto acquired McAllister Feb. 16, 1999 for Darby Hendrickson.

Kelly was an eighth-round pick of the Flyers this year.
