The 24-year-old Johnson appeared in 14 games for the Lightning last season after being acquired in a trade with Florida, recording two assists. Johnson played in 66 games for the Panthers, totaling four goals and 13 assists.

"We feel Ryan is a big piece of our future," Lightning general manager Rick Dudley said. "He has a lot of speed and uses it well, and we think he'll have a real good upside in the NHL."

The signing of Johnson leaves the Lightning with four restricted free agents; defensemen Kaspars Astashenko, Pavel Kubia and Bryan Muir and center Wayne Primeau.
