Mavericks sign Trent to 1-year deal

DALLAS, Jan. 23 -- The Dallas Mavericks continued to piece together their frontcourt Saturday with the free-agent signing of forward Gary Trent, who had been with the Toronto Raptors. Financial terms were not disclosed for Trent, who joined his third team in less than a year.

Last season, he averaged career highs of 11.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 54 games with the Portland Trail Blazers and Raptors. Originally selected 11th overall by Milwaukee in 1995, Trent was immediately dealt to Portland. Last February, he was part of the Kenny Anderson-Damon Stoudamire deal with Toronto. He has averaged 9.9 points per game for his career. Trent is just 24 and becomes part of a frontcourt rotation that includes center Shawn Bradley and forwards A.C. Green and Samaki Walker. The Mavericks also have signed first-round pick Dirk Nowitzki. Friday, the Mavs signed free agent forward-center Hot Rod Williams, who had been with the Phoenix Suns.
