Mavs' Thomas breaks ankle again

DALLAS, Nov. 14 -- The Dallas Mavericks say forward Kurt Thomas today again re-fractured his right ankle, the same ankle he broke twice within the past year and had bone graft surgery on in May. The 25-year-old Dallas native is slated to undergo testing over the weekend, and the team says it expects a prognosis by early next week.

Thomas has played in five games this season, averaging 7.4 points per game in 14.6 minuutes. He missed the entire pre-season and the first two games of the season as he recovered from the May 29 surgery. Thomas was acquired from the Miami Heat last February in the Jamal Mashburn trade. He was the Heat's 10th overall pick in the 1995 draft and was good enough to start for the Heat in several games last year before breaking his ankle on Jan. 24. Thomas played college ball at Texas Christian in Fort Worth after a stellar high school career at Dallas Hillcrest. ---
