No. 16 Iowa 58, Penn St. 38

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Val Barnes scored 11 points and Acie Earl added 10 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday night, lifting 16th-ranked Iowa to a 58-38 victory over Penn State.

The victory was Iowa's second over the Nittany Lions in three days as the Hawkeyes improved to 18-6 overall and 7-5 in the Big Ten.

DeRon Hayes and Eric Carr each had 8 points to lead Penn State, which suffered its 11th straight loss and dropped to 6-17, 1-13.

The win was the 147th at Iowa for Coach Tom Davis, who moved into sole possession of second place on the Hawkeyes' all-time list.

The Nittany Lions shot just 29 percent from the field in the first half and fell behind at halftime, 35-19. Iowa held on despite shooting just 28 percent in the second half.

The Hawkeyes outrebounded Penn State, 49-29.
