PIANCAVALLO, Italy -- Dorota Tlalka of Poland won the women's slalom in the European Alpine Ski Cup finals at this northeast Italian resort Wednesday, clocking two runs of 55.91 and 55.24 seconds for an aggregate of one minute 51.15 seconds.

Second was Andreja Leskovsek of Yugoslavia in 1:51.56 and third Rita Naepflin of Switzerland in 1:52.11.

Canada's Diana Haight, heading the slalom standings at the start of Wednesday's event, missed a gate during her second run and was disqualified.

The course dropped 174 meters. There were 58 gates in the first run and 54 in the second run.

The four-day men's and women's finals were switched to Piancavallo from the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily because of poor snow conditions on Etna. The decision was taken one day before the Etna volcano burst into severe eruption Tuesday--the day the events were originally scheduled to start.
