Austria holds Servian for attempt to blow up gunboat

BELGRADE, Nov. 5, 1908 (UP) - Servia Thursday made a demand on Austrian authorities for the surrender of a Servian named Mansevitch, captured by the Austrians while he was swimming toward an Austrian gunboat in the Danube river.

The Austrians say that Manusevitch carried a large quantity of explosives with him and sought to blow up the gunboat.

This is denied by the Servians. The incident has heightened the feeling between the two countries, and the Austrian and Servian soldiers are now fortifying opposite sides of the river.

The national assembly is still hopeful of avoiding a war, but the government is preparing for the worst. Sixteen thousand troops are now encamped around the city, and the bullion in the national bank and the offices of the general staff of the army will be removed to Kraguyevatz.
