Obama reportedly asked HBO chief for advance copies of 'Game of Thrones,' 'True Detective'

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- We already know that President Barack Obama (or the PR team that runs his Twitter account) was looking forward to the new season of House of Cards, which premiered Friday on Netflix.

But according to the New York Times, he's also into True Detective and Game of Thrones, and tried to swing some advanced copies.

Obama reportedly approached HBO Chief Executive Officer Richard Plepler at last week's state dinner for French President Francois Hollande -- where HBO star Julia Louis-Dreyfus was hobnobbing with real-life Vice President Joe Biden -- and said he wanted to watch the shows over his Presidents Day holiday.

There's no indication that Plepler actually ceded to Obama's request. Though HBO has already aired several episodes of True Detective's eight-episode season, Game of Thrones' fourth season doesn't debut until April 6.

Unless Obama managed to get his hands on Game of Thrones, he'll have to content himself with this 15-minute preview like everyone else.
