Dhoom 3 sets worldwide box-office records for Bollywood

What happens when Bollywood comes to Chicago? It makes lots and lots of money.

At least that's what happened when Indian export Dhoom 3 opened this weekend, on more North American screens than any other Hindi film, and pulled in $9.54 million at the box office on its opening day.

Yash Raj Films says the $1.28 million in the Gulf and Middle East and the $1.1 million in North America both set Bollywood records. Dhoom 3 pulled in $6.1 million in India.

Set in Chicago, Dhoom 3 stars Abhishek Bachchan as India's top cop Jai Dixit, called to the States to catch thief and circus showman Sahir (Aamir Khan).

Dhoom 3 is playing on 236 screens in North America, pulling in nearly $4,500 per screen.
