Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine star in Christopher Nolan's upcoming space flick.

Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Christopher Nolan has already plumbed the depths of Gotham City and the dark recesses of Leonardo DiCaprio's dreams, but his next project will take on a subject of even greater scope -- space.

The nearly 2-minute trailer for Nolan's next film, Interstellar, doesn't reveal much in the way of plot. But it does feature Matthew McConaughey's unmistakable Texas drawl as a voiceover meditating on the history and future of space exploration.

"Perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers," McConaughey says, "that we've barely begun and that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, that our destiny lies above us."

Nor does the trailer make use of the film's star-studded cast, which also includes Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Topher Grace, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, David Oyelowo and Wes Bentley.

Interstellar's promotional team will undoubtedly hope to capitalize on the success of Alfonso Cuaron's beautifully filmed Gravity, which captivated both critics and audiences this year, and will invite inevitable comparisons with future space films.
