Royal baby born: What's next for the new heir?

The royal baby has arrived, as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to an eight-pound, six-ounce baby boy Monday, with husband Prince William at her side, sending the Internet into a frenzy. The royal baby has been mentioned more than 1 million times on Facebook since Kate went into labor.

Kate was kept in St. Mary's hospital overnight, and the couple is expected to give the first glimpse of the baby on the steps of the building with the newborn, just as William's mother Diana did when he was born. There, they will take photographs and get into a car that will take them home.

The departure is expected to happen Tuesday. Prince William is likely to make a statement outside the hospital before their departure, and Kate's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, may also make a statement.

The name of the royal baby has not yet been announced, and the timing is wholly dependent on Will and Kate. Prior royals have taken anywhere between a few hours, as Charles and Diana did with William, to a few days, as they did with Harry.

The earliest the couple will announce the name of the first Prince of Cambridge in more than 190 years is when the family leaves the hospital.

The couple must register the boy's name within 42 days of his birth. In the meantime, speculation has peaked in England and abroad.

From the hospital, the new family is predicted to either stop at the Queen's estate or the Middleton's home, but where the family will live has been a well-guarded secret. They will eventually live in their recnetly renovated apartment at Kensington Palace.

The couple is reportedly not hiring a nanny, and is striving for a relatively normal upbringing. After his mother's death, William is reportedly wary of media and is expected to keep the boy's life as private as possible.
