Obama congratulates the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their first son

Pesident Barack Obama congratulated Kate Middleton and Prince William on the birth of their first son in a statement on Monday.

"Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child. We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings. The child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations. Given the special relationship between us, the American people are pleased to join with the people of the United Kingdom as they celebrate the birth of the young prince," the president wrote.

The Prince of Cambridge is third in like to the British throne. He was born Monday July 22, at 4:24 p.m. at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London.

Officials said the Duchess of Cambridge and her son would stay in the hospital overnight and that the baby's name would be announced in due course.
