Former Greco-Roman wrestling Olympic champion Nicolae Martinescu of Romania died Monday at the age of 73.
The wrestling governing body, FILA (International Federation of Associated Wrestling), broke the news Wednesday in a statement in which they recognized the wrestler's accomplishments as an Olympian.

"Mr Nicolae Martinescu was a very talented wrestler," the statement read. "Olympic gold medal in Munich in 1972, Olympic bronze medal in Mexico in 1968 and 2 silver medals in World Championships."
No further details were divulged about Martinescu's death.
