Runner dies of heart attack while competing at Barcelona marathon

A 45-year-old man suffered a heart attack and died while competing on the Barcelona Marathon in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday.

The man, who registered in the race as X.J., died while being treated at the Clinic Hospital of Barcelona due to cardiac arrest, Zurich Marató Barcelona reported.

According to the marathon's website, the man fainted after crossing the finish line and was immediately treated by the unit of the Barcelona Red Cross before being transferred to the hospital where he passed away.

The Zurich Marató de Barcelona expressed their condolences to the man's family and friends.
