CAIRO, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The retrial of jailed Al-Jazeera journalists Baher Mohamed and Mohamed Fahmy will begin on Thursday.
Fahmy, an Egyptian-Canadian, is currently serving a seven year jail term. Mohamed, an Egyptian, is serving a 10 year sentence. Fahmy renounced his Egyptian citizenship recently in an attempt to secure his freedom.
Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste was released from jail in Egypt and deported to Cyprus on Feb. 1.
Greste, Mohamed and Fahmy were arrested in Dec. 2013 on charges including reporting false news and endangering Egypt's national security. They were accused of collaborating with the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's oldest and most influential Islamist group, banned by the government in 2013.
