SEATTLE, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old boy who disappeared with his father in Seattle was found on a remote tropical island 7,000 miles away from his home.

Billy Hanson and his father Jeffrey Hanson were last seen in Seattle on August 28 before they sailed on the elder Hanson's 1976 Cooper sailboat to the small island nation of Niue. A federal arrest warrant was issued on September 12, after the son never boarded a plane that was supposed to take him home from his summer break with his father on September 4.

The boy was found safely and his father was taken into custody. The father is a known drug abuser.

"When I talked to Jeff (Hanson) he told me they were going to Blake Island," said Billy's mother Joanna in September. "I love my son, and I want him back."

The father is accused of abducting Billy from Shilshole Bay Marina.
