Chinese fishermen missing in waters near disputed islands

A search is underway for five fishermen missing in the East China Sea after their boat took on water early Friday. The boat sank near the uninhabited and disputed islands known as the Senkaku islands in Japan and the Diaoyu islands in China.

BEIJING, June 27 (UPI) -- Five fishermen are missing after their boat sank in the East China Sea early Friday.

The trawler carrying 10 fishermen took on water near the disputed islands that China calls Diaoyu and Japan refers to as Senkaku.

Five of the fishermen were rescued. A search, involving two military vessels from China's East Sea Fleet, is underway for the remaining fisherman, state-run Xinhua reported.
