LONDON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Nearly 200,000 homes were without power Tuesday as severe weather canceled or severely altered Christmas plans across the United Kingdom, officials said.
Flights out of London's Gatwick Airport have been delayed or canceled, while trains have been canceled and homes flooded, the BBC reported.
The Energy Networks Association said nearly 100,000 homes were still without power with Kent, Surrey and Sussex the worst affected. Power supplier Southern Electric said 70,000 of its customers, primarily in West Sussex, southern Hampshire and Dorset, had no electricity
While southern England has been badly affected, Scotland and Ireland have taken the brunt of the storm. Winds there were expected to reach 90 mph.
The Hebrides had experienced wind gusts as high 69 mph on the Isle of Tiree and 75 mph on South Uist, the British weather office said.
The Environment Office has issued 150 flood warnings for England and Wales, indicating flooding is expected. More than 250 alerts are in place for areas where flooding was considered possible.
