Police officer near Greece, Albanian border dies in shootout

FLORINA, Greece, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A police officer and two Albanian nationals were killed early Sunday morning during a shootout in Greece, authorities said.

The 43-year-old officer was patrolling the border with Albania looking for poachers and unlicensed fishermen, Ekathimerini reported.

He and another officer came across a small hut in Florina and the two men inside allegedly opened fire when they were asked to identify themselves, officials said.
