Cyclist in France dies of injuries received when gored by bull

MEJANES, France, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A German cyclist was killed in France when a bull bred for fighting escaped his enclosure and charged at the cyclist, goring him in the chest, officials said.

The 54-year-old man was riding bikes with his 47-year-old wife near Mejanes in the Camargue region of southern France Monday when the accident occurred near an enclosure holding several bulls, the French version of The Local reported Tuesday.

Initial police reports indicated the enclosure's fence collapsed when the animals were fighting among themselves. One of the bulls escaped and charged the couple as they passed by on their bicycles.

The Local said the bull charged at the husband, goring him several times in the chest. His wife was not seriously injured by taken to a nearby hospital.
