Flooding traps 12 in northern China coal mine

FENYANG, China, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Rescuers in China were scrambling Saturday to reach a dozen workers trapped in a flooded coal mine, the company that operates the mine said.

The 12 miners were among 42 people working in the Zhengsheng Coal Mine in Fenyang City in northern China's Shanxi Province, China's official Xinhua News Agency said.

The other 30 miners got out as water began filling the underground mine, the Shanxi Coking Coal Group told Xinhua.

The cause of the flooding was under investigation.
